The 2017 Whidbey Island Marathon is held on Sunday, April 23.
Whidbey Island is a fantastic destination for a weekend getaway. Say goodbye to your city life for a few days, and relax in this stunningly beautiful setting. Whidbey Island is located a little north of Seattle, right in the Puget Sound of Washington State.
The island is a vehicle accessible vacation destination for many visitors and a great and beautiful getaway from the region’s busy mainland.
Whidbey Island provides stunning ocean views and rolling farmlands, and the annual full and half full marathon courses are promising to be very scenic from waterfront coastlines to country back roads, and from rolling hills to snow-capped mountain settings.
Whidbey Island is located just over 90 miles north of the city of Seattle, and you will need around one hour to drive from Everett to Oak Harbor.
Be aware that the full and half full marathon courses are NOT closed courses! The courses are coned and flagged for protection purposes, and there are certified flaggers, course monitors, and police officers all along the courses, but you still need to be aware of traffic in the area.
HAM Radio Operators and motorcycles will monitor the courses, and basic first aid material and resources will be available at every water station. Porta-potties and water stations are located on the courses every 2 miles. Electrolyte replacement drinks and energy gels will be available at many water stations all along the Full Marathon and Half Marathon courses.

In April, the weather on Whidbey Island is usually sunny to somewhat overcast, and temperatures range on average between 50 and 65 degrees. But as you know, this is Washington State and the Marathon is in the spring, so it may get a little colder and it may windy and rainy as well. So be wise and check the weather forecast prior to your run and you will understand that you should dress accordingly.
